  • The Family Way: Coming Home
April 5, 2018

Director Shiva Rodriguez and Rogue Chimera Films have recently released a grisly short horror film about a very disturbed teenager and the *ideal* family following his very disturbing actions.

The Family Way: Coming Home
opens with a cringe binge-inducing attack on a teenage girl, and things only get uglier and far more sinister (very quickly) from there. In all, at first it seems things get a little too up close and personal with events that, disgustingly, happen all too often. What doesn’t happen, however, is the twist in the story.

The awards and nominations for this 15 minute horror show are impressive! Take a look for yourself and learn more about the film here.

Also, this short is a prologue to a feature film currently in development and you could be a part of its creation. This opportunity is scheduled to close April 20th so act fast if you’re interested.

If you have an Amazon Prime account you can watch this short horror film now, or check out the trailer here:

Good luck to Shiva and the team and thank you for bringing this startling horror show to my attention!

  • Asylum of Fear
March 12, 2018

The good people at Gravitas Ventures and Evil Iguana Productions recently released this goretastic-looking tale of madness and mayhem and it might be right up your alley/psychotic tunnel of love.

From the Facebook page:

* "Asylum of Fear" follows a team of paranormal investigators as they go on one last job to a haunted mental institution where children have reportedly gone missing. While searching for evidence of what is haunting the abandoned building, they stumble upon clues that reveal what made the former head doctor snap and go on a killing spree through the halls decades earlier. Unfortunately, the more they uncover, the more they struggle to make it out of the asylum alive because something inside wants that mystery to stay dead and buried. *

Now, I can sit and watch paranormal shows until the cows come home and turn into ghosts themselves. So the idea of a team of investigators playing the flashlight-communicating-with-spirits technique, expecting the light to turn on or off, but instead out jumps a killer ghost/demon/human (...?!?...). This had me tapping my finger tips together whispering: excellent.

Based on the trailer alone, this film looks like a fun one for a late night movie night with friends, perhaps the more (people, pizza, beer, etc.) the merrier.

Learn more About Evil Iguana Productions and Asylum of Fear here. You can also check out the Facebook page.

Good luck with this and future projects, team!

  • Book: Ghosts of Manor House
February 25, 2018

Although this is a horror movie blog, occasionally I'll share the latest and greatest about horror novels. Admittedly, I'm a book worm as well as a published author, and although my reading choice (and publication) involves more nonfiction, every so often I love a good horror story.

So let me introduce you to Matt Powers, author of Ghosts of Manor House.

About the story from the press release:

Mary and Edmund had a happy life, until one of their two children died in a drowning accident. Mary sunk into depression and then she heard something. Something reached out to her, told her that she could be with her son again, the family could happy together. The house was calling to her.

The family went to Manor House to get away—for Mary it was to find her lost son. To follow the voice and find a way her family could be whole again. For Edmund, her husband, he looked forward to some writing, time away from work, and to hopefully see his wife happy again.

Edmund arrives at Manor House to begin his writing; sure that Mary and their daughter will follow. But he soon discovers that Mary is missing. And he realizes that Manor House is more than just an interesting story, it is haunted.

Edmund wants to find Mary again, to be a family again. Can Manor House help him? Or will Manor House be his undoing?

Of all the social media options out there, is probably my favorite. And Goodreads is loving this book (4.18 out of 5 stars). With such reviews as:

"There are some plots you really enjoy, then there is truly excellent writing that makes you forget you're reading." Mary

"It has been a long time since I’ve read a page turner like Ghosts of Manor House." Taylor

"It stays miles away from traditional cheap thrills, lets you experience genuine slow scare, something that’s really crucial in defining true pure horror." Scottshak

"This book is a unique, out of the norm read that works really well. The best part about the book is the author; you can't help but root for him. He's got a big heart and his relentless drive is seen through his story." Robert

"I was so into this book I almost missed my stop." Auden
*I relate to this so much, Auden*

In short, this books appears to be a very fun and great read for horror fans. I look forward to checking it out!

Also, since I enjoy audio books so much, I feel it's important to share that this book is also available as an audio book (4.0 out of 5 stars)!

Top review on Audible by Simone being: "Mind Bending Paranormal Thriller".

Folks, if you love horror novels then I think you need to add this one to your To Read list.

Thanks for bringing this book to my attention, Matt, and best of luck!

  • 11th Hour Cleaning
January 31, 2018

I'm all ears when it comes to Nordic demons - you just don't hear enough about them anymore. So when Ty Leisher, writer and director of the upcoming supernatural horror film: 11th Hour Cleaning, a story about crime scene cleaners that encounter a Nordic demon, my ears were perked.

If you're wondering where in the world this idea came from....:“As a kid, my parents were foreclosed home cleaners until one day, we walked into a house where a murder occurred.” Writer/Director, Ty Leisher said, “Since that day I’ve dreamed of telling this horrific story in the most psychologically twisted way possible.”

I look forward to seeing this film!

From the Press Release:

(El Segundo, CA -- November 21, 2017) Exit 44 Entertainment is excited to announce their debut supernatural horror film, 11TH HOUR CLEANING. The film tells the story of a group of crime scene cleaners that struggle to escape a murder house after becoming trapped by an ancient Nordic demon that is hell bent on driving them insane.

11TH HOUR CLEANING is the directorial feature debut of Ty Leisher, who penned the script with the help of co-producers Ed Morrone (White Collar, The Fugitive Chronicles,) who co-stars, and editor Eric Brodeur (Filly Brown, Exeter), who will also lend his hand in the editing bay.

The creative team behind the camera includes special effects makeup artist Melanie Young (Scream: The TV Series, Sacrament,) cinematographer Vince Taroc, and production designer Kim Brunner (The New Adventures of Peter & Wendy).

11TH HOUR CLEANING marks the second collaboration for the Exit 44 Entertainment team.

Exit 44 Entertainment is a Los Angeles based film production company. Founded in 2016 by Eric Brodeur, Ed Morrone and Ty Leisher with the goal of creating entertaining escapism films that peak inside the twisted nature of humanity. from IMDB

This collaboration's previous short film, Stranded, is available to watch now! It's is a dark, cold, tense, and striking film about some of those post-apocalyptic nightmares we all share. Sure to leave you chilled to the bone. Well done team, and good luck with 11th Hour Cleaning!

  • Lunch Ladies
December 14, 2017

What do you get when you cook up a fantastic short horror comedy and serve it in a bloody pie of absolute hilarity? A simply delicious and satisfying gut bomb of laughter - that's what!!

nom nom nom

Synopsis from the press release:

"For the past twenty years, obsessed Johnny Depp fans and fraternal twin sisters, Seretta and LouAnne Burr, have shared a miserable existence as high school Lunch Ladies serving up rubbery chicken parts, ammonia-treated government meat and whatever else the cash-strapped national lunch program sends their way.

This year is going to be different: The twin’s Cheesy Burger Bites recipe is the Grand Prize Winner of Johnny Depp's Cook for Kid's Charity Event!

Convinced this is their ticket out of high school hell town and that “The Depper” will hire them to be his very own Personal Chefs, their dreams are shattered after a snotty head cheerleader pushes them one step too far.

This forces the Lunch Ladies to ask themselves…

WWJD? What would Johnny do?"

With absolutely stellar acting, directing, editing, writing, and effects, it's no wonder to me that this 18 minute film has already received a ton of awards and nomination recognizing all.

Lunch Ladies is making rounds in the short film festival circuits, with a recent acceptance into the Flickerfest in Sydney Australia, Silver Scream Fest in California with the in tandem Famous Monsters, and it looks like they will be showing at the exclusive Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival!

In short, this is an impressively witty, gross, and finely detailed film that will surprise and delight any horror fan!

I highly encourage you keep an eye out for this one! Also, learn more about the project and the artists who made it happen in the links below.

  • Arder
September 21, 2017

From David González Rudiez
This looks like an intense, intense film. This is a silent film - absolutely silent. No voices, no sounds, no music - all silent. Even the one minute trailer is intense. David González Rudiez‘s second feature film ARDER will be premiered in the upcoming 50th International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia (Sitges) in the competitive Noves Visions Section.

ARDER, written and directed by David González Rudiez is a silent movie with no musical accompaniment that tells the story of a man's journey into darkness.

From David González Rudiez

Madrid. Nearby the M30. A nameless man goes tirelessly against the current of the constant traffic. In one pocket he has a map. In the other, several charms like a broken compass, a powerful dice, a magic stone and a coin cell battery that always reflects the full moon.

From there... The night. The journey. The devil. A flute and a tune.
A beginning and an ending.

  • Malady
July 23, 2017

Here's a film that looks like it was born from nightmares! Writer and director, Jack James brought this independent drama horror thriller Malady to my attention, and I think anyone who enjoys an overall feeling of complete dread and madness will enjoy it (this film sounds right up my alley, anyway.)

From Jack: "Malady has been described as an unsettling and intense experience; the film follows Holly, who fulfills her mothers last dying wish to go out and find love. In doing this she meets Matthew and impulsively embarks on a relationship with him. Soon after, the two are drawn back to take of Matthews dying mother, who sends the two spiralling into a nightmare reality in which they are challenged with shame, guilt and long buried family secrets."

Malady is currently available to stream in the US and UK through Amazon, iTunes GooglePlay, and VUDU. I strongly encourage you check out the trailer, as it has done a great job of relaying the dreamy chilliness, striking backdrop, and I personally loved all the critic's responses to this film.

You can learn more about the film here, or follow on Facebook and Twitter.

Thank you again, Jack! I look forward to seeing the film:

  • The Sublet
July 12, 2017

TriCoast Entertainment brought this delightfully disturbing looking feature, The Sublet, to my attention and I'm excited to say that as of July 17th it is now available to stream on Amazon!

**From the press release: TriCoast Entertainment presents the release of the psychological thriller THE SUBLET, in collaboration with Breakthrough Entertainment and Black Fawn Films. Produced and directed by John Ainslie, the film focuses on the terror of Joanna, (Tianna Nori), and her fiancée, Jeff, (Mark Matechuk), when they move into a sublet apartment, located in an eerie small town.

Instead of starting their new life together, the sublet apartment begins tearing their family apart.

While settling in, Joanna struggles with postpartum depression and Jeff is devoted to his career, leaving her alone as the sole caretaker of their child. Doubts about her husband creep slowly in when Joanna discovers a synchronicity with the violent and lonely past of a previous tenant of the apartment, Margaret (Krista Madison), who Joanna suspects may still be living there, along with them.

THE SUBLET is a taut, suspenseful thriller that captures the torture of Joanna’s battle with postpartum depression playing out against the creepy rooms of the haunted apartment.

In the tradition of Jacob’s Ladder, Joanna’s slow descent into madness is a counterpoint to the explosive violence seeping though the walls from another time, culminating in a shocking conclusion.**

I am super excited to check this thriller (...ghost story?!...) out! If you're not already excited then check out the trailer here:

  • 3 Dead Trick or Treaters
June 8, 2017

Torin Langen is a filmmaker from Kitchener, Ontario, and after 4 years in production has recently completed their feature film 3 Dead Trick or Treaters. It's a Halloween folk-chiller told entirely without dialogue. The fragmented narrative chronicles 5 stories of grisly Halloween traditions, with a strong emphasis on atmosphere and visual storytelling. The film premiered at last November's Blood in the Snow Canadian Film Festival, and is continuing its festival tour later this summer.

Their first trailer was released on in May. Check out the exclusive trailer premier and learn more about the film here or through the Vimeo trailer:

3 Dead Trick or Treaters (2017) - Official Trailer from Torin Langen on Vimeo.

Just one look at the trailer and one can quickly see how much sound and visuals play a ground-breaking role in making this a horror film - and by all initial appearances - a stellar horror film. My jaw dropped.

If you're jaw dropped too then I would encourage you to check out the Sound and Vision interview with Torin on YouTube. Part 1 and Part 2.

I'm pretty excited about this film and I look forward to seeing the feature! Thanks again Torin and team and best of luck 3 Dead Trick or Treaters!

May 23, 2017

  • Needlestick
April 24, 2017

Writer and director of Needlestick, Steven Karageanes, brought this film to my attention, and it looks like a bloody wild ride. Staring the awesome Lance Henriksen, and after watching the trailer, it just feels like a perfect film for a pizza and beer saturated movie night with friends.

Movie synopsis from IMDB: "A desperate doctor locks down South Union Cardiac Hospital to keep the greatest discovery in human history to himself, while a young intern races to save a dying young dancer, his ex-girlfriend, and his best friend, and stop his mentor."

Or you can learn more from the film's About page on their website.

"A drifter passing through a small town is drugged by three masked psychopaths and forced into a bizarre game of cat and mouse. He is chased through a series of more and more bizarre events until, in the end, he finds that this evening of terror has lasting consequences. It’s a feel-bad film, nasty and brutish, red in tooth and claw."

Just based on the visually amazing and terrifying teaser trailer alone, this looks like a film that will knock you right out of your seat/mind/body.

I love James DePaolo's (from review: "This is David Lynch 2017 if he was heavily influenced by shrooms and vodka."

This film has already won Best Cinematography Narrative Feature and Best Action/Thriller with Creation International Film Festival (CIFF), and 2nd Place Winner at the 2017 International Horror Hotel festival. From what I've seen so far, this film will be making more excellent headlines and walking away with more awards.

  • Inner Ghosts
March 31, 2017

Press Release: Paulo Leite is writer/producer of Inner Ghosts and brought this film to Horror Habit's attention. Directed by João Alves, Inner Ghosts is being produced in Lisbon with a predominantly British cast: Celia Williams, Elizabeth Bochmann, Iris Cayatte, Norman MacCallum and others.

As of March, the film is in sound post. The team has been working for months on a super smart and informative Kickstarter campaign that has already exceeded it's goals! The team has invested a lot of time in developing and writing a great script and hope it will resonate with horror fans who really want to see a new type of ghostly horror story. Check out the synopsis below:

"It's been 15 years since LILLY took her own life, leaving her mother, HELEN, a broken woman. Today, Helen is a brilliant brain researcher trying to develop a way to tap directly into our most inner data storage device: the soul – hoping to treat patients whose brains have been destroyed by Alzheimer's disease. But in order to try her ideas, Helen needs to run a series of tests on real ghosts and try to understand the minds of those who, on the other side, keep existing beyond the physical brain. The problem is that Helen, who is a medium, hasn't contacted the dead in all these years, still affected by her own personal loss.

The story takes Helen and her assistant RACHEL to an old palace where they find a group of benign ghosts who agree to help their research. The place is naturally shielded from electromagnetic signals, making it the perfect location for Helen to start the tests – undisturbed by unwanted entities. Things start to change when ELSA, a famous graphic artist specialized in demonic imagery, asks Helen for some mediunic training hoping to get rid of an entity who has been haunting her for many years – and recently became too violent. Helen reluctantly accepts it unaware of the entity's true goal. The benign entities inside the apartment offer Helen the design of a small 19th-century device that can help her establish contact with one's living soul. But already hidden in the apartment, the evil entity finds that old technology fascinating as it manages to discover Helen's secret – something that unites Helen and Hell together. Helen's journey will end in a BIZARRE and UNEXPECTED twist of fate that will blow the audience's mind."

You can learn more about this film, it's cast, and production progress here: Also follow the team on Twitter and Facebook to keep up on their latest and greatest news.

This looks like an ambitious but rewarding feature and I look forward to seeing the final product! Again I encourage horror movie fans to check out their Kickstarter campaign. Although they've met their goal there's still a long road ahead to get an independent feature film out into the world.

Thank you again Paulo and team, and best of luck to Inner Ghosts!

  • The Purging Hour
February 24, 2017

The Purging Hour (or as is listing it, Home Video) is a found footage film that debuted in 2015 and is directed by Emmanuel Giorgio Sandoval.

Synopsis from the film's website:

"With the hopes of a new life for his family, Bruce Diaz left the harsh city for the serene and majestic mountains of California. The Diaz family's first day in their new house would go down as one of the most violent 24 hours any family could ever imagine. With no serviceable evidence being retrieved and no witnesses to speak, the case was eventually dismissed. Several years later, the family's personal home movie footage was released by anonymous source. "The Purging Hour" tells the family's story, through their eyes."

Also check out the trailer on YouTube:

Although I know found footage films is not for every horror fan, I appreciate Dread Central's commentary: "A compelling exercise in psychological terror".

If you're interested in more, this film is available at Amazon, Best Buy, F.Y.E., Google Play and at Walmart.

Thanks again team for bringing this film to my attention, and best of luck to The Purging Hour!

  • The Mothman Curse
October 3, 2016

This film was brought to my attention because of my reviews of the 2016 film Moth, and the 2002 film The Mothman Prophecies. I love Mothman stories!

Movie synopsis for The Mothman Curse from YouTube: "An Ancient Evil Unleashed. A supernatural thriller based on the terrifying legend of The Mothman. Rachel and Katy work together in a large, empty museum. But lately, Katy notices slight, disturbing changes in her friend, while a menacing, dark shadow appears to be watching them night after night, drawing them both further into fear and madness. As they investigate deeper, the legend becomes a very real, living nightmare."

Check out the trailer:

And if you have an Amazon Prime account the film is available to stream now. Thank you for this information, Mansfield Dark Productions!

  • Dead of Knight
May 23, 2016

I was first contacted by director Joe Grisaffi when he brought his hilarious and side-splitting gortastic film, Conjoined to my attention. But now, according to PR Buzz, there is a new video game being created that is based on one of his other films, Dead of Knight.

Video game news (PR Buzz): "A videogame based on the independent micro-budget horror film Dead of Knight has been developed for the classic Vectrex system by Luchs Soft in Germany. The Vectrex game is a port of an Atari 2600 version of the game by Gemintronic. Retrovideogaming is hot right now, but is rarely mixed with independent film marketing....Both the Atari 2600 and Vectrex games follow the concept of the movie. You play Sir Gasparay, and after a scene in which Gasparay’s spirit takes over an athlete’s body, the dark knight must then seek out and slay victims who represent chivalric traits, then capture Marla and present her to evil Queen Sofia, where a final battle takes place.
The film synopsis (PR Buzz): Someone is going medieval on Marla's friends, brutally killing them one by one. When she tries to tell people what's happening - a cursed medieval knight is on a rampage - no one believes her.
Stay tuned for more about the video game but good news, the film is available now on the Kings of Horror YouTube channel!

Learn more about all things Dead of Knight through their website and Facebook. Thanks again for the information, Joe! Although I don't play many video games, I look for forward to checking out this film!

  1. Thanks for your post. I’ve been thinking about writing a very comparable post over the last couple of weeks, I’ll probably keep it short and sweet and link to this instead if thats cool. Thanks. press release
